A month in the life of a charity worker - September!

This month, long standing volunteer David, left the foundation.  BOOOOOOO!!!!  David is well known in the area for his quick wit and ability to stay out to all hours of the night – and still look alive at 9am!  Oh, to be 25 again! His departure meant a new kid on the block: Joao/John/Johnny/J Star arrived, finally, after a debacle with the Portugese visa people – upping the levels of testosterone and providing some much needed levels of seriousness to our office.

 Bye David...Bisquit misses you already

Enter...the Portugese...

 In fundraising news:

We expanded the pub quiz and now do two a month – 1 at Aussie Pub Kamala and one at Sugar Reef, Cherntalay.  Prizes have included Massages, Blu Ray players, Brunches at Paresa, Haircuts, Brunches at Rockfish, free Scuba Dives and Lady Pie Pies …as well as the coveted gag prizes!  You are welcome to bring a team along to challenge for the title of “Phuket’s Most Smartest”.  Pub Quizzes now run on the last Monday of every month in Kamala and second Thursday of the month in Cherntalay, 7pm registration!  All welcome!!!

 Such a poser!

Clare hosted her first ever Phuket Has Been Good To Us Bingo night in Shanghai, China and raised around 28,000 Baht.  Brilliant, right! Anyone who wants to run an event to help raise funds for the Foundation is welcome to contact me and I can help you organize a fun event!  All funds go directly to facilitating the teaching of free English classes to local children.

Our new, shiny brochure was completed this month – True Blue Ozzie donor, Phil, paid for the printing and hand delivered them.  We have already seen results from having new and improved marketing materials, all thanks to Hayley’s blood sweat and (often) tears!

Jame and Mai say thanks to Phil

This month we tried to get a few new Coconut Club activities off the ground, so:

Surfing lessons started and ended…until next term…

Almost FAMOUS – Phuket’s Ultimate Underage Social, took place at FAMOUS nightclub.  A great time was had by all the participants – DJ Tom the Tank kept the partygoers dancing and Outrigger Asia Pacific made sure no one starved!

The lovely Khun Taan from Gloss Nails in Cherntalay, came to Coconut Club and gave interested girls lessons in how to be a Nail technician.  In my mind, these types of activities are invaluable – they allow our children to gain experience in jobs for when they leave school.

So we have been very busy beavers recently…hooray for school holidays and brief reprieves!  See you all soon!
