The World's Best Job, by Teacher Angela

Having initially signed up for 6 months, I am regularly surprised to find myself saying, “I have been here two and a half years”!

My role here has changed so drastically, but one thing that remains the same is the absolute joy this ‘job’ provides me, on a daily basis.  When I was asked to share some of my highlights…it was a very difficult task.  But here goes:

Looking at a P6 class at the end of a year and seeing just how much they have learned since P1

It is astounding to me that with such a short time frame the students learn so much. They arrive not knowing how to say their names and leave being able to formulate full sentences and with the confidence to use English in interactions with adults.

Swimming

There is nothing that makes the children happier than going swimming.  And happy children = happy teachers.  I am always grateful for the hotels (and their patient guests) who allow us to bring children every week to have an amazing day off the school grounds.

Our team

We have an amazing group of teachers, administrators, full time helpers and visitors who work hard for little or no money to improve the lives of these children.  As the saying (that we probably coined) goes, “We are here for the children”.  Many of us could be earning much more elsewhere, but here we are…

The hugs

There is a saying by Virginia Satir, a family therapist, that says, “We need four hugs a day for survival. We need eight hugs a day for maintenance. We need twelve hugs a day for growth.”  If this is true, I am twelve feet tall and bullet proof.  I usually get my twelve hugs a day before 9am.  And I love it.

What else is there to say?
